La cosa straordinaria é che ogni atomo del vostro corpo proviene da una stella che é esplosa. Di piú, gli atomi della vostra mano sinistra probabilmente provengono da una stella diversa rispetto a quelli della vostra mano destra. É di gran lunga la cosa piú poetica che conosco della fisica: Siete tutti fatti di polvere di stelle. Non potreste essere qui se delle stelle non fossero esplose, perché gli elementi - il carbonio, l'azoto, l'ossigeno, il ferro, tutte quelle cose importanti per l'evoluzione - non furono creati all'inizio del tempo. Sono state prodotte nelle fornaci nucleari delle stelle, e l'unico modo in cui questi atomi sono potuti finire nel vostro corpo é che queste stelle sono state così gentili da esplodere. Nota tecnica: L'esposizione e' durata circa due ore, il 50mm per queste foto e' al limite dell'usabilita': mettere a fuoco e' stata un'impresa per far stare sia l'albero che le stelle nella profondita' di campo. Per la verita' ho volutamente sfocato leggermente le stelle per ottenere delle tracce piu' evidenti.
Nota astronomica: Le stelle sono quelle della costellazione di Orione al suo sorgere sopra l'orizzonte.
